| Allergies
are exaggerated or abnormal reactions to substances that usually do not
cause a reaction in most people. Allergies can lead to more serious illnesses
such as asthma or sinusitis. In some cases, allergic reactions can be fatal.
Symptoms include sneezing, wheezing, coughing, itchy watery eyes. Also,
itching in the ears, throat, and nose. The mucous is clear. Allergies
can last weeks or months.
If you suspect you have allergies it is recommended that you see your
physician. A physician can help you determine what is causing your allergies
and prescribe medications if necessary, refer you to a specialist, or
provide you with health tips.
For the most part, people with allergies go on with their daily activities
unaffected. In more severe cases or in cases where the person can not
tolerate their symptoms, medication can be prescribed. Other ways of reducing
the symptoms of allergies are: 1) stay indoors when pollen and mold counts
are high, 2) make sure filters in your home are changed and 3) dust regularly.
