The Oakdale Leader
Wednesday, May 11, 2005
Beginning today, May 11, the Stanislaus County Public Health Department
is operating a sexually transmitted disease clinic at the main Public
Health building at 820 Scenic Drive in Modesto.
Clinic hours are Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 2:30- to
6:30 p.m. by walk-in or appointment. For appointments, call 209-558-8866.
“Our goal is to get people in for testing and treatment,”
said Public Health Officer Dr. John Walker of the opening.
He said that Chlamydia and Gonorrhea adversely impact young adults, and
noted that untreated STDs have many complications and can lead to infertility,
damaged reproductive organs, heart trouble, skin disease, arthritis and
blindness. Carriers can also pass the infection to a baby while in the
womb or during childbirth.
