Two mosquito pools found southeast of Grayson earlier this month tested
positive for West Nile virus, county health officials learned Friday.
Meanwhile, mosquito abatement districts have found 13 infected dead birds
countywide, and nearby counties are already dealing with human cases this
year.
It all points to the prediction county health officials made earlier
this year: This will be the biggest year yet for West Nile virus in the
Central Valley.
“We would be very surprised if we didn’t see confirmed human
cases in Stanislaus County very soon,” said David Jones, spokesman
for the Stanislaus County Health Services Agency, on Monday.
Jones and others are urging people to take precautions for the disease
as a result.
