A total of five new West Nile Virus have been reported by the Stanislaus
County Health Services, with three announced on Friday, July 29.
Dr. John Walker, public health officer for the county has announced three
additional confirmed human cases of West Nile virus. The three cases include
a 60-year old male who has West Nile fever and was not hospitalized; a
76-year old male with West Nile fever who was not hospitalized; and a
62-year old male with West Nile neuroinvasive disease who was hospitalized,
but has been discharged from the hospital.
"These new cases are a reminder to take action in preventing the
spread of West Nile virus," stated Dr. Connie Maggi, assistant public
health officer for Stanislaus County. "We are asking the local community
to help stop the breeding of mosquitoes and to take personal precautions.
"In the wake of a rise in reported cases in both Stanislaus and
San Joaquin counties, increased funding for the Central Valley was announced
Thursday, July 28, in a roundtable discussing between area health officials
and the chief of the California Department of Health Services (CDHS).
