Stanislaus County needs the extra $3 million in revenue
that a change in federal classification for its health clinics
would bring — but it had to cede some control over
a health board to keep its application alive.
The county is seeking federally designated status for its
clinics, which would allow the county to get full cost reimbursement
for services to Medi-Cal and Medicare patients.
The designation would bring an additional $3 million annually
to the cash-strapped health clinic system. The new revenue
would prevent additional service cuts to the clinic system,
which has been a multimillion-dollar drain on the county's
general fund in recent years.
