County – Who is the hottest young singer to hit the charts
in the United States? Yes, indeed, another Canadian singer by the name of
Avril Lavigne. Lavigne has been called “a skater-punk, a dynamic spirit
and a wild child” who started wowing people with her voice at age
2. Her debut album “Let Go” was released in June and has already
sold millions of copies and she was recently nominated for Billboard artist
of the year.
The SHADE Teen Clinic, a non-profit provider of health services by teens
for teens, is the major sponsor of the Friday, December
20 Avril Lavigne concert hosted by B93 radio at the State Theatre
in downtown Modesto. SHADE Teen Clinic staff will be on-hand at the event
to talk with attendees before and after the concert and to hand out educational
materials in regard to teen pregnancy prevention.
Media Information
The event will start at noon with an outdoor vendor display
on J Street in front of the State Theater (weather permitting) including
the SHADE Teen Clinic staff. The vendor display is slated for noon –
4 p.m. SHADE staff will be available for interviews before and after the
event. At 1:45 p.m. Avril Lavigne is scheduled to perform inside the State
Theater. For concert visuals, concert promoters have stated that media
will be allowed in the theater FOR AVRIL’S FIRST TWO SONGS ONLY
and there is no flash photography.
The SHADE is a peer provider clinic, meaning that teens are providing
reproductive health services to other teens. The clinic is part of the
Health Services Agency of Stanislaus County. Total services that are provided
by teen counselors, nurse practitioners and physicians include pregnancy
testing and counseling, STD testing, birth control, reproductive health
exams for females and males, outreach and educational presentations. Teen
peer providers have been trained in all aspects of family planning and
have been certified by the California Family Health Council as Family
Planning Health Care Workers and by the California Wellness Foundation
as Peer Provider Counselors. All the peer providers are students attending
Modesto High School. The clinic is located at 401 Paradise Rd. in Modesto
at the West Modesto Community Center.
The Stanislaus County Health Services Agency (HSA) is an outpatient medical
system with 10 medical offices located throughout Stanislaus County. The
HSA operates the Public Health Department, an Urgent Care Center and multiple
programs serving over 500,000 patients and clients each year in Stanislaus
County. The HSA also is in local partnerships for the MOMobile project
and the Stanislaus Family Practice Residency Program. The HSA has extensive
