Stanislaus
County- Many of the leading killers of women—heart disease, cancer,
and diabetes—can be successfully prevented or treated if caught early
enough. Some of the most important steps a woman can take for better health
are to get regular check-ups, increase her awareness of health risks and
find out what she can do to stay in good health.
The Stanislaus County Health Services Agency is hosting its second Women’s
Health Celebration on Saturday, May 20, 2006 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at
the church facilities of Christ Unity Baptist Church at 1320 L Street
in Modesto.
According to Dr. Connie Maggi, Assistant Public Health Officer, “We
would like to encourage women to take simple steps for a longer, healthier
and happier life.” The goal of this event is to increase awareness
of women’s health issues and to introduce them to healthier behaviors
such as exercise, healthy eating, and stress management. Bilingual staff
will be available to provide information in Spanish.
The Women’s Health Celebration will be kicked off by a local physician
discussing the health issues and challenges women face today. Participants
will then attend 3 breakout sessions of their choice such as yoga, diet
and nutrition, a cooking demonstration, jazzercise, stress management,
and free health screenings. Some sessions are also available in Spanish!
This event is being co-sponsored by Memorial Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente,
Blue Cross, and Health Net.
We anticipate 200 women to take part in the event. Space is limited,
so pre-registration is recommended. For more information or to register
